This page is dedicated to Erosion Prevention of the Florida Beaches.

Having jogged almost 400 miles of beach coastline in Florida, I have seem some beautiful sights of land, water, flora and fauna.  One particular sight I have seen is one of beach erosion.  And I don't think the state of Florida is doing enough to ensure the longevity, even the survivability of their most precious natural resource, the beaches.

Too often have I heard stories of how the big the beaches used to be.  And too often I have seen homes precariously perched on stilts above a beach with the home's foundation a good 20 ft above the beach line.

On Captiva, years ago they initated a drive to save their beaches culminating in the Captiva Erosion Prevention District.  To quote their website, "Although the CEPD existed on Captiva as far back as the 1950s, it is now  constituted as an official beach and shore preservation district under Section 161.32 of the Florida Statutes. The CEPD’s jurisdiction includes all lands  within the tidal waters of Captiva Island."
Here are a few before and after pics of their work:  My question is: Why aren't other communities taking up the tasks of making their beaches a priority?  After all, Florida without beaches is like ______ without _____.  Kind of like Georgia.
